Updates to Photosynth – Poorman’s LiDAR? – Part2

So it looks like Microsoft Labs upgraded Photosynth (to 2.0109.415.1554 – whew!) earlier this month, adding “highlights” (links to pictures of interest) and finalizing their port to Silverlight. You can read more about the updates here – but unfortunately there’s still no “export” functionality and no mention of its possibility.

While I haven’t given up on structure from motion as a PoorMan’s LiDAR, I have decided the point cloud is extremely messy and this is a major obstacle taht require quite a bit of thought. While I still prefer using Bundler, MS’s Photosynth makes publishing these synths quite a bit easier, and they just look cool. So here are a couple of the test syths I’ve been working with from around the Fort and from a recent trip to the Black Hills.  Enjoy!

Tree locations in a woodlot near the house…

A small ponderosa pine patch off the balck hills…

A willow at the school across the street (notice the deatils on the fork)…

Logs on a logging deck at the mill in Spearfish, SD…

    Thank you,
